3. Don’t ignore warning signs
- Oil-life or maintenance reminder appears.
- Oil level is low on the dipstick.
- Oil-pressure warning light comes on.
- You notice a leak, unusual engine noise, or burning-oil smell.
If the red oil-pressure warning light is on, safely stop the engine and seek assistance. An oil change alone may not fix an oil-pressure problem.
